} This piece examines manufacturing through a lens based on Euclid’s Elements, specifically the relationship between axioms and tools (straight edge to line, and compass to circle).
The central argument is that wiring diagrams augmented with assertions about component behaviour create a “local mathematics” for manufacturing, bridging abstract design and physical production. This builds on David Spivak’s notion of plausible fiction as a model for manufacturing.
